As you will appreciate, it is essential
that your staff are properly trained and aware of their responsibilities
in the event of a spillage on site. Simply purchasing a `spill kit'
or pack of drain mats is not enough. Knowing when and how to use
these materials is the key to an effective spillage response. Furthermore,
training for emergency preparedness and spill response plays an
integral part of pollution prevention under ISO 14001.
We offer a range of on site spillage training courses,
delivered by experienced personnel who can provide expert advice
and demonstrations. All include practical exercises where attendees
are given the opportunity to work in teams and use materials in
a `spillage' situation. Attendees receive handouts and other materials
to support the training.
Typically a training session
would include an introduction covering the legislation, background
and theory to the training, risk assessment and procedures,
an outdoor demonstration and practical exercise, and finally
a debrief and question session. We would recommend including
information on the health and aspects involved in a chemical
spillage, including correct use of Personal Protective Equipment
(PPE), understanding CHIP hazard symbols and labelling, and
using Material Safety Data Sheets. |

To close the training session we recommend that attendees
complete a brief written assessment to test their understanding
and knowledge developed through the training, following which certification
of training can be issued. Alternatively a simple certificate of
attendance may be issued (but this does not acknowledge achievement
of any level of knowledge or competence).
There are several levels of training course, running
from basic to advanced, essentially depending on the level of knowledge
required. All courses can be tailored to suit
your site layout, the nature of the chemicals and materials stored
on site, and your existing environmental and emergency procedures.
(Alternatively the course can be used as an opportunity to formulate
a new procedure or critically appraise and amend an existing procedure).
Courses are generally designed for up to 20 delegates.

team to discuss your requirements in confidence.
