Companies should be aware
that key staff need to be educated in the relevant environmental
and waste legislation, and trained in handling the necessary documentation.
Staff responsible for completing special waste consignment
notes or controlled waste transfer notes are in effect signing a
legal declaration about the waste, and in doing so should be aware
of how this affects them and the company as a whole.
Staff involved in labelling, handling, or consigning
wastes, should be aware of their responsibilities under the `Duty
of Care' and the Carriage of Dangerous Goods (where relevant). When
suppliers are contracted to remove waste from site, staff need to
know how to check the licensing and credentials of the supplier,
ensure that the load is secure and understand the safety implications.
We can tailor courses to suit the company needs and
the abilities of the staff involved. Training can be suited to high
level management right through to the key operational staff, such
as goods in, stores, cleaning, security and administration.
We target the training at the necessary level of understanding
and make it relevant to the workplace, with example documents, practical
exercises and discussion (instead of baffling attendees with reams
of unmemorable legal speak and technical jargon).
Key areas include the Duty of Care, waste licensing
for Carriers and Waste Management Facilities, waste classification
and segregation, labelling, waste transfer documentation, hazard
and European waste Catalogue (EWC) code selection.
Courses are typically concluded with a written assessment
for attendees to demonstrate understanding and application of the
knowledge gained through the training. The marked assessment papers
are ultimately returned for staff records, and they provide excellent
evidence of training for any internal or external audit purposes.
Attendees successfully passing the assessment will receive certification.
